What Makes Tesla Stand Out?
Just sitting inside the different models of the Tesla showroom was an experience. The wide windshield, glass roof, and large display at the front all made it feel like we were in a spaceship of some kind. Features like autopilot, ludicrous speed, and the over-the-air updates make Tesla vehicles seem like they come from the future. Not to mention that these are electric vehicles, which are a really innovative and cool aspect of the company. Most people would be impressed by just an electric vehicle, but the additional features that Tesla provides make the whole experience seamless.
However, Tesla values passenger safety just as much as all the fancy features and futuristic appeal. The Model 3 we were looking at had eight sensors surrounding the vehicle and is one of the safest cars on the market. Through the use of both cameras and ultrasonic sensors, Tesla was able to make their vehicle smarter and safer.
Customer Experience & Consumer Safety
Tesla avoids dealerships altogether, and instead leverage their customer experience by having them buy the vehicles directly from the company. This is significantly different from other car manufacturers, and it gives Tesla an advantage to truly communicate the benefits of an electric vehicle to their customers.
Tesla really goes the extra mile for their customers (literally)
Tesla offers customers of any age a free ride around the neighborhood free of charge
If your older than 21, you are able to test-drive the car (or the car drives you...with Autopilot)
The Autopilot mode is to make driving easier for the driver because it has speed control and keep a track of traffic
The engines are safe from collisions because a metal bar protects the drivers as well as the 8 sensors around the car
Tesla is always innovating and keeps technology and consumer safety at the forefront of their principles
Takeaways and Applications
Electric vehicles have no engine, meaning they lack any component at the front of the car. Tesla takes advantage of this and gives their customers a second (smaller) trunk in the front known affectionately as a frunk. By taking what others might see as an ordinary feature and giving it an identity, Tesla was able to better market their idea as a strong advantage over their competitors.
Although Tesla started as and is still mainly an electric car company, they sell products like the Solar Roof and the PowerWall that are meant for homes. Because Tesla has to manufacture large quantities of large batteries for their vehicles, they decided to start selling them for homes as well. Tesla is one of the largest battery manufacturers in the world for their vehicles, so after assessing their strengths they produced what is essentially a large battery for home use. Tesla also offers access to its Supercharger network (was free up until literally the day we visited) which provides fast charging at stations positioned in popular locations across the country and throughout the world. By incentivizing early adopters with free charging, Tesla was able to gain more customers at an early but critical stage in their company.
